The council is pleased to be able to support Hi Kent charity with a donation of £480.00 to cover the costs of the clinics held at Sutton at Hone Library for 2023

Hi Kent is the registered charity (no. 1052036) helping and supporting residents of Kent of all ages living with hearing loss. Deafness causes many issues which result in disadvantage, and deafness is often known as the ‘invisible disability’ because often there is no outward sign that someone has a hearing loss.
Hi Kent runs a free monthly outreach Hearing Aid Support Clinic for the residents of Sutton-at-Hone of all ages living with hearing loss, which runs from 11.00am to 12noon at Sutton-At-Hone Library, Main Road, Sutton-at-Hone, Dartford DA4 9HQ, and will be held on the following dates in 2023:

13th January, 10th February, 10th March, 14th April,12th May, 9th June, 14th July, 11th August, 8th September, 13th October, 10th November, and 8th December.

This Support Clinic is provided free of charge to local residents and run by our fully trained volunteers, providing batteries for NHS aids and a full cleaning and re-tubing service to ensure that hearing aids are fully functioning. This clinic runs for one hour but our volunteers are always happy to extend this time to ensure that each client receives the time and attention they deserve. Our volunteers often have a hearing loss themselves so understand the challenges that have to be faced when this vital sense is lost or partially lost.

Home visits are also provided for people unable to travel to the clinics due to illness or frailty.

The Hi Kent monthly free Support Clinics benefit those local residents who are living with hearing loss and require expert help to look after their NHS aids in order to ensure they work effectively for them. Hearing aids that are regularly maintained and work well give the wearer more confidence in their ability to cope better with everyday life and enjoy social situations secure in the knowledge that their aids help them pick up the sounds/pitches they have lost. Having such a local service means that clients do not have to travel to a central audiology department, which often incurs travel and parking expenses and sometimes waiting time.
